As it flows through the town of Northfield on its way from Canada to the Long Island Sound, the Connecticut River is joined by many local tributaries. These combined waters have shaped the history and character of the town, while changes in the land have produced changes in the waters themselves. Everywhere the welfare of water and people are linked and in each place the linkage is unique. In Northfield we are extremely fortunate to have an abundance of clean water and ways to enjoy it. We have a responsibility to protect our water.
GNWA is committed to the study, appreciation and protection of our watershed and we invite you to participate in the work that we are doing. Besides, it will be fun.
In the fall of 2019, GNWA was reorganized with the goal of providing more opportunities for learning - really asking more questions - about the watershed. You will see in this website how this mission pivot is reflected in the interests of our expanded board and our initiatives for 2021. More is on the way.
GNWA has a history of working with many partners to spread awareness of watershed issues and this will not change. Our goals are especially aligned with the Connecticut River Conservancy and Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust on land and water protection efforts. We may cross post events they and others offer from time to time.
